Hand made Ganifa Cards of Sawantwadi remembers everyone about bygone era. This cards are made from circular pieces of paper on which intricate designs of Dashavtar ( Ten Avtars of God Vishnu) are hand painted.Each card pack contains 120 hand painted cards housed in equally colourful box. History says that this cards arrived in Sawantwadi 350 years ago, when Bhosle, Royal Family of Goa settled here after fleeing from portuguese regime there. The Bhosles brought several artisians along with them who were versed in woodcarving & paintings. This families survived mainly by supplying handicraft items to the royal families. In 1961 there were 45 such families though six such families still live in Sawantwadi today.
Shilpa Gram is another major project taking shape in Sawantwadi. It will be craft village where local manufacturers will manufacture handicrafts & tourist will be able to watch them manufacturing craft & will also to purchese them. Besides this Ampi Theatre for performing local arts & lake side accomodation is also being developed by M.T.D.C.
