Pushkar Lake - BindaasTravel.com

Pushkar is an artificial lake located in the state of Rajasthan in India. It is situated near the Pushkar town in the district of Ajmer. The lake is beautifully surrounded by the deserts and hills from all the sides. It covers the total area of about 5 km. It gets separated from the city of Ajmer by the snake mountain known as Nag Parbat. The pious Pushkar Lake is regarded as the sacred lake among the Hindus in India. It is the only lake connected with Lord Brahma in the whole country. The city of Pushkar is situated on the banks of the Pushkar Lake. The lake has around 400 temples, 52 palaces and 52 ghats and each ghat has water of special powers. The lake is known for its serene atmosphere throughout the year. Some of the most popular among them are Brahma Ghat, Gau Ghat and Varah Ghat.

Pushkar Lake is a holy site for Hindu devotees. Pilgrims come from all over India to take a ritual dip in Pushkar Lake. The lake is shallow near its edges, with ghats or steps leading into the water. The occasion of Karthik Purnima or the full moon day in November every year, is particularly auspicious. Pilgrims bathe in Pushkar Lake, pray at the Brahma temple and then release thousands of small boats made from leaves, bearing lamps and offerings to the gads on the waters of the lake. The surface of the lake covered with twinkling lamps, mirrors the star studded desert sky above.

Pushkar Lake carries immense religious importance for Hindus and is believed to be a place of meditation for Brahma. The lake is one of the oldest in the country and myth has it that it came into existence with creation itself. Pilgrims from all over the country visit the lake during the months of October and November to take a dip into its holy waters. However it is comparatively a quiet place for the rest of the year frequented by tourists but not very crowded.
