Palitana Jain temples are situated in the state Gujrat. It is one of the most sacred pilgrimage of the Jain Community. Palitana Jain temples are cluster of more than 1300 temples on the Shatrunjay Hills. The temples are carved in white marble. The main temple is on the top of the hill and is dedicated to 1st tirthankar lord Adinath (Rishabdeva). These temples are constructed by different generations of Jains over the period of thousand years since 11th century onwards. These temples are dedicated to 24 Jain Tirthankarars. According to the Jains it is a place where they attain Moksha.

Digamber Jain temple is one of the most important temples in Palitana. It one of the ancient temples which has 9 shrines with idols of all Tirthankara. 1008 Bhagwan Shantinath is the main deity of the temple and it is on the main shrine. The idol is wonderfully beautiful made up of white stone in Padmasana posture. It is believed that the idol was installed here in 1686. There are also beautiful idols of Yudhishthir, Bheem & Arjun as it is also considered that they also attained moksha there. The two idols of Chintamani Parshvanath and Vighnaharan Parshvanath are located here too. The foot images of Bhagwan Adinath & Bhagwan Sambhavanath can be seen in the temples of Palitana.

All the big and small temples here build in white stone and marble with beautiful ornate sculptures. Amazingly all the temples has different art. The trail of the temple starts from the foot of the hill. There are near about 3745 steps to get the peak of the hill. Generally it takes 2 hours to get the top. There are water posts made along the road as pilgrims are not allowed to eat anything on their way up, they are only allowed to drink water. Devotees eat only after the descend.

The pilgrims make offerings at the shrine of Bhagwan Adinath. This beautiful temple has been renovated quite a few times. Earlier it was made up of wood. Then Siddhraj Jaisimha's minister Udaymehta made it in marble and Kumarpal, descent of Siddhraj extended the temple. There are many shrines dedicated to many Hindu God and Goddesses. Angar Pir is the Muslim shrine in Palitana temples. Devotees from all over the world visit this land of temples, specially it is believed that childless women pray here for children.
