Nizwa Fort was build around 1650's by the second Ya'arubi Imam. As the center of trade, religion and art, Nizwa has gone through period of peace and conflicts. This fort was build with the protection devices. It is the tallest building and from the top of the fort it can reach the view to the surrounding valleys, it makes all enemies movement will be say to detect.
Hailed as a monument to Omani architectural ingenuity, Nizwa fort reflects the military engineering prowess of fort-builders of a bygone time. It is also one of the Sultanate's finest historical edifices, attracting great numbers of tourists each year.
It is equipped with a strong wall around the fort and another outer wall surround the souk and small village outside the fort.In the entrance of the fort. In each turning of the stairs it has several traps, so that the rushing enemies will fall down at the unexpected location.
Inside the fort, it has several rooms, date storage room, where the dates were stored (up to tons and tons of them) and the juices flowed out from the baga nd gathered and extracted to make the syrup. Date syrup could be used as food material or killing material to boil it and throw it on the enemies. There were several others room because this fort was used as people to stay in during that period.
Nizwa has been a crossroads between Muscat and the mountains for centuries and boasts several magnificent mosques in addition to its well known souk, anchored by a large fort. The countries largest falaj (the ancient irrigation systems), the Falaj Daris is here and Nizwa typically serves as a base for exploring Oman's interior (i.e., plenty of hotels and restaurants can be found here!).
How to Reach :-
Nizwa is connected to Muscat by an excellent double lane highway. Muscat is about 66 miles from Nizwa.
