Kodaikanal comes only next to Ooty in the most popular tourist destinations of south India. Kodaikanal called Kodai in short, is a hill station with a sylvan beauty, enchanting hills , rocks and woods, lovely lake has become the ideal location for a leisure traveller coming in to India. This hill station is located on the southern crest of the well known Palani Hills of Tamilnadu.
Kodaikanal, The Land of Kurinji flowers. Kodaikanal is known for its blue coloured Kurinji flowers which bloom only once in twelve years. Kodai has a pleasant climate and can be visited any time of the year.
The hill station is located at an altitude of about 2133 meters above sea level and has an area of about 22 sq kilometers. Berijam lake is one of the beautiful lakes of the Kodai Hills.
The maximum temperature is about 29 C in summer and the minimum is about 9*C in winter. The best will be from April to June, September and October.Just Light woollens will be needed in summer evenings but heavy woollens will be needed in winter.
If you are travelling by air, Chennai is the nearest International airport but the Domestic airports, Madurai at 120 kilometers, Trichy at 195 kilometers and Coimbatore at 170 kilometers are closer than Chennai.If you are travelling by Rail you can get down at Kodai Road which is located at the foot hills of Kodaikanal at about 80 kilometers from the top.
Most of the trains which pass through Kodai Road stops there. Kodaikanal is connected by a good road network. All the cities from Tamilnadu and Kerala are connected with state transport and private buses to Kodaikanal.Regular buses ply from Chennai, Madurai, Trichy and Coimbatore to Kodaikanal.Palani, Theni, Dindugal, Munnar, Bangalore , Kumily are other nearby places connected by road from Kodaikanal.
