Kodaikanal also known as Kodai is a beautiful hill station at an altitude of about 2133 m high on the southern ridge of Palani hills in Western Ghats.Kodaikanal the name itself means gift of the forest in Tamil.The thick lush greenary that surrounds the place completely adds to the beauty.There is scenic grandeur and many alluring locales including the spectacular Pillar Rocks the serene Coakers Walk and many magnificent waterfalls.The pleasant climate makes the place accessible all round the year and reasonable rates as well as the multi cuisine food available does lure tourists.
History :-
Kodaikanal is history goes back to the pre historic times.The Dolems home from the Chera Dynasty made of great stome slabs found in the city speaks of the city is pre historic connection.Sangam Literature belonging to the early Christian era also includes some details about the city.The Pulyans ruled here during the 14th century.The fear of invasion of Tipu Sultan forced the people of Palani Foot hills to leave the village and settle in the Kodi hills.
The first British identity to set foot on the land of Kodiakanal was Lt. B.S. Ward in the year 1821.For them Kodaikanal became the safe haven for the scorching summers of other parts of Tamil Nadu.Koidakanal got its first church in 1860 and further a lot many developments were taken place in event of the visits of the prominent leaders like Governors of Madras Sir Charles Travelyon and Lord Napier during 1860 and 1871.The first train service was started in 1875 when the route from Chennai to Madurai and Tuticorin was extended.

Buses from Madurai and Dindigul climbs the spectacular road up the steep hillside to Kodai.Regular bus services are available from Kodaikanal to Kodai Road Theni Erode Kumuli Bangalore Coimbatore Palani and Trichy.

1.Kukal Cave :-
Located at a distance of 40 km from Kodaikanal is a favourite camping site for trekkers.
2.The Kurinji Andavar Temple :-
This temple is 3.2 km away from town and is dedicated to Lord Subramanya.
3.Flora and Fauna Museum :-
East of the town centre about 3 kms south down Law is Ghat Road is the Flora and Fauna Museum.It has a collection of stuffed animals.
4.Other Places :-
There are many places in Kodai that have become an attraction among tourists like Pillar Rocks Coaker is Walk Dolphin is Nose Orchid House & Silver cascade Falls and many others.
