Jenolan Caves - BindaasTravel.com

The beauty of the Jenolan Caves, situated in the Blue Mountains, is its maze of ancient limestone tunnels, subterranean rivers, and caverns richly draped with exotic mineral deposits.

The Jenolan Caves were name the local Aborigines first Binnomea or Dark Places. Since the 1830s when discovered by European settlers over 40kms of multi-level passageways have now been explored and mapped.

For many years, researchers suspected that Jenolan Caves was extremely old. Recently the CSIRO solved the mystery, establishing that the caves are the world's oldest known open caves.

The caves were created over millions of years through a complex relationship between water, rock, atmosphere and the lifeforms that inhabit the environment.

Tour guides take you through the caves. Some caves are tougher than others. Jenolan Caves also offer adventure tours, picnic facilities and bush walking tracks.

The drive to Jenolan Caves is also a pleasant experience. The natural welcoming of the Grand Arch is unforgettable. The acoustics of the Archway make carols by candlelight at Christmas a truly magical event!
