Located in the heart of India, Jabalpur is bathed by the holy river Narmada on three sides. Narmada valley, with its jutting marble rocks, makes the city a paradise for archaeologists and geologists. Endowed with mythology, the city also has a lot of historical significance, as it was the pleasure resort and capital of the erstwhile Gond Kings, during the 12th century. It later served as the imperial seat of the Kalchuri dynasty also. Marathas ruled Jabalpur, from whom the British appropriated the place during the colonial empire.

This rich chronicling of the history of Jabalpur is noticeable in numerous Gond forts, monuments and temples, hemmed in different parts of the city. The British sway over the place also manifests in the form of the large cantonment in Jabalpur, with its barracks and colonial residences. Today, the city is deemed as an important administrative and educative centre of Madhya Pradesh and is one of the most developed cities of the state. Madan Mahal Fort

Positioned at the top of a hill and approached by a long stairway, Chausat Yogini Temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. Surface
Jabalpur is having the main bus junction in the West of the Napier town. It is on the National High Way 7 and is well connected with Bhopal, Indore, Satna, Nagpur and Raipur. Government and private buses ply on a regular basis to Bhopal. All the other places also have good bus service.

The distance from Jabalpur to Satna is 189 kms and the journey takes only 3hrs. Varanashi is 505 kms away and is a 13 hrs journey. You can also reach Bhopal from this city which is 336 kms away in just 7 ½ hours. Jabalpur is one of the important sections in the Howrah- Mumbai Main line.

Air
Jabalpur has an airport called Dumna which is situated at a distance of 20 kms from the main city centre. It is connected to all the important airports in India. Bi-weekly (IA- Boeing ) is available to Delhi and Raipur.
