A dainty town sixteen kilometres southwest of Munnar. A perfect picture of fairy- tale enchantment . The old wiv's tale has is that once Sita Devi, the holy consort of Lord Rama, came down to frolic in the lake and the place came to be spoken about as 'Devikulam' (meaning the lake of the goddess), ever since.
Attractions in and around Devikulam :--
1. Sita Devi Lake :
The mineral water lake that spurts its water over the rolling hills is a wonderful picnic spot. The lake has been named after Goddess Sita and is believed to have curative powers. The lake forms one of the many sacred sites for Hindu pilgrims, in Kerala.
2. Tea Plantations :
The tree plantations that are spread in and around Devikulam further define the beauty and that too in its own terms. The tea estates is a common feature of the hills of Devikulam.
3. Chinar Wildlife Sanctuary :
the wildlife sanctuary, although some 50 kms from Devikulam is a good place and worth a drive from Devikulam. The sanctuary features many wild species including elephants, leopards, sambars, gaurs, etc.
4. Munnar :
Munnar is a popular hill station in Kerala that lies in vicinity of Devikulam. The place like Devikulam presents lush forests, tea plantation and quality bred live stock.
