Chashme Shahi Garden

Chashme Shahi Garden - BindaasTravel.com

This Royal Spring Garden gets its name from the Spring discovered by the great female Saint of Kashmir Rupa Bhawani.Rupa Bhawani had the family name as Sahib and thus came the name of the Spring Chashme Sahibi. The area around the Chashme Sahibi was subsequently developed by the Mughal Governor Ali Marden. The Garden so formed around the Spring is today known as Chashme Shahi Garden the Royal Spring.Chashme Shai is dedicated to Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.

This Garden is situated near the Governers House or the Rajbhawan in Srinagar.Chashme Shahi is one of the three major Mughal Gardens of Srinagar.

As you enter the Garden the sound of water flowing will attract you.Rows and columns of beautiful and colorful flowers lined up all around the Chashme Shahi make a beautiful landscape. There are three Chasmes - Springs in the Chasme Shahi. The biggest one is at the entrance the other two small ones seem to be at the adjacent sides of the main Spring. There whole of the area has been made out of rock cut stones layered to give a perfect symmetry.

There used to be a time when they had the dance and light show in the evenings. The sounds of the thump of the feet of the King and the Queen with their actions using light music at the background were played. It used to be the best part of the Chashme Shahi. They still have it sometimes but one has to enquire about it.

The whole of the Chashme Shahi Garden is a live and rare combination of rocks Kashmiri and Mughal architecture. The combination of Red and Green with the flowers in the background and around makes it more splendid.

Running down the stairs or sitting on the stone laid before the Chasma or simply looking at the beautiful flowers or taking a stride in the lawns of the Chashme Shahi is all that adds magic to the visit to the Chashme Shahi Garden.ory
